Think Like a Hacker (‘Enterprise’)

Smith and his colleagues at the Institute want to upend our assumptions about the way computer security systems work, which means that they want to challenge computer security system designers to think about the way people really use computers. Smith calls it ‘finding the holes,’” writes the magazine.

“For a lot of us, hacker isn’t a bad word,” Smith tells Enterprise. “What are they learning that standard engineers don’t? Are their brains different? How do we learn these skills? We want people to learn these skills. We need to have more people thinking like hackers, not servers. … The best way to protect systems is to learn how to attack them.”
